FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

To all of you poorly prepared interviewers who don't have a clue anyway... Here's a run-through of the typical questions we keep on answering over and over. Feel free to cut and paste. Hope you enjoy it! Because we sure as hell don't... (Psst a little tip: If you have the slightest ambition of doing an interesting interview, skip these questions and move on...)

Sooo...where are you guys from?
We're from a small town in the south of Norway, called Lillesand. We live in Oslo nowadays.

...and who plays what?
It's Hans Jørgen Undelstvedt on lead vocals, guitars and samples.
Lars Løberg Tofte on bass, backing vocals, oh and lead vocals on "Come Home" from Circles EP by the way, samples and keys. Finally it's Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen who's on drums, backing vocals, percussion and keys

Now...rumour has it that you must have a fourth member hidden behind stage or sumpin' because you sound insane live... True or false?
Pshaw! Utter nonsense. We're just that good!

Good answer! How would you describe your music?
New/Alternative/Indie/Rock/Emo/No Wave/Power/Stoner/Pop/Punk/Core
Take a listen and decide for yourself!

Well, what kind of music do you listen to, then?
We listen to a heap load of stuff! The list is too long to mention, but since you ask so nicely we'll try to narrow it down. Let' see... Sonic Youth, Spiritualized, The Flaming Lips, Fugazi, The Mars Volta, My Bloody Valentine, Velvet Underground, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Jr. Ewing, The Smiths, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Miles Davis, PJ Harvey, ...and you will know us by the trail of dead, Pavement, Pixies, QOTSA, Joy Divison, Blonde Redhead, Gomez, Jaga Jazzist, YeahYeahYeahs, Bob Hund, Broken Social Scene, Motorpsycho, Neil Young, Beatles...

So...like... who writes the lyrics and what are they about, and stuff?
It's Hans Jørgen who writes the lyrics. (H.J. squirming on his seat, his eyes shifting...) Uhm... well, the lyrics are influenced by whatever mood I'm in I guess, a word or a sentence picked up from tv or poetry maybe, overhearing someone speaking, memories, people behaving strange, just being bored, frustrated, confused, insomnia, being in and out of love and a little thing called imagination... everything that gives me inspiration really, like right now I'm getting curious about you and what's inside that head of yours!

Ok, whatever dude, but why did you decide to be in a band anyways?
We were good friends to begin with. We knew each other from various bands when we were kids in Lillesand. It's such a small town so if you knew how to play "smoke on the water" you were automatically in at least three different bands. Anyway, the three of us hooked up in Oslo later on and found out we should do something together to spice things up a bit.

Do you make a lot of money, now that you've got a record deal and all?
No... we all have to squeeze in extra jobs to make ends meet, which rarely happens by the way.

What is the meaning behind the name Heroes&Zeros?
It describes how we feel. Sometimes your up, sometimes your down...

What's the next step for you guys? International stardom?
Yes of course! And any minute now monkeys will fly out of my ass! But for real...These things are impossible to control but we have always thought of ourselves as an international band with an international sound. So naturally we will try to make something happen when the time is right.
